I felt a strong sense of gratitude that I was given the gift of travel, and I recognized that all that enrichment may never have been mine were it not for the encouragement of my work colleague who convinced me to take my first solo travel after my husband died.
I thought: “Perhaps there are other women who fear their ability to navigate the world of travel, and perhaps I can provide for them some encouragement about their ability to do so.”
It was then that the idea for this blog was born. The best way to reduce fears of travel, I felt, would be humor, making travel less serious and intimidating. Thus were born the two heroines of this blog, fearless Myrtle and her intrepid sidekick Jo-Jo, both of whom I love passionately and to distraction for their utter willingness to appear ridiculous.
They became my Road Rocking Grandmas, and thus was born RoadRockingGrandmas.com. Almost all the episodes of the RoadRockingGrandmas blog are based on true experiences from my travels, often elevated into the realm of entertaining hyperbole and sometimes even absurdity, both useful tools for the humorist. Who among us does not need to laugh sometimes?
